The Sydney Bicycle Messenger Association Website has had a few renovations but always remained with the same ideal. That "It" was created to gel past present and future bike messengers with a common direction. Originally it was decided with a few meetings in cafes around the city that an association should be put together so that Sydney could bid for the CMWC. This was just one of our many directions from then. The sydbma has prospered to become a recognised group in a variety of bicycle disciplines.
The sydbma has been active in a variety of ways to promote and grow the Sydney Bike messenger fraternity. Being on the street every day is a lifestyle that some people prefer. Some bike couriers are career couriers and others just stay for a season. no matter how a bike messenger / courier spends their day, you can bet its on their bike. Infact its often about THE BIKE. This website is for those with an interest of all those messengers / couriers.
Bike messengers come from all walks of life. Some have been architects and airport flight controllers, bike enthusiasts and graduates of all sorts not to mention the guys who just ride bikes.
The messenger family is a bond that is international. On 21st October 2006 Sydney hosted the 14th Cycle Messenger World Championships (CMWCXIV). The event proved to a great success with entrants from all around the world. The visitors all enjoyed themselves immensely. The website was integral in informing the world of how and who and when for all our visitors, members and media alike. With the ability to promote and inform anyone who was interested. Registration and payments where avaliable from this site.
Sydney was a great host and the event as a whole was coordinated and organised to a "T". Reports filtered through to all sorts of media. radio and TV and the web all reported on the events.
The Many international visitors registered for the variety of events. From meet and greet to presentations and of course the main events. The Long weekend of saturday 21 October was on a whole, the event as a whole was a success which was topped off as being my best birthday ever (by the way).
Thanks to those involved and thanks to the competitors who made it happen.
We know you had a good time and left us with fond memories. We most certainly have too.
The next CMWC (XVI) will be held in Toronto.
See you there. http://www.cmwc2008.com/
The Markus "Fur" Cook Award

What is the MCA???
The MCA for services to the International Messenger Community is not a prize for winning a race. At the time the Award was conceived, CMWC was beginning to be more about the racing than the happening. I [Buffalo Bill] wanted to re-establish the spirit of the championships, to restate the reason that we all come to this event every year. The MCA is a reflection of the axiom that everyone who comes to a CMWC is a winner, whether they race or not.
Markus himself was very much in love with the CMWC, and in many ways he was the unlikeliest bike racer imaginable. He was several other things, of course. Editor of Mercury Rising messenger zine, unofficial spokesperson of the SFBMA, leader of L Sid, and a friend to all. The enthusiasm of Markus brought CMWC and the international messenger community to San Francisco, and it saddens many people to this day that he did not live to see it.
This award is for people that inspire and empower the wider messenger community, that put all of us before themselves.
