i was speaking to a tax guy here in brisbane and he was saying that it would be an easy thing to get the "food for fuel" system added to the current tax laws since australia and canada have essentially the same base taxation system.
but it would need a concerted push by a national body, and support from the TWU to get through.
since we are talking about setting up a national identity, this would seem a good time to try and do something useful with it.

We aren't very involved with unions up here...
Most of the people that aren't in unions feel that they don't get paid enough to join unions...
Most of the higher paid messengers aren't union members because they get paid enough...
A lot of people cancelled mamberships years ago... When no one could unite and push for changes properly....
Unions worked fairly well in Adelaide... We had a rider Scotty that was really good at getting that sort of thing done (he was also really good at punching heaps of people out and breaking car windows! That's why he got fired!).... We all (Toll Fist not ACE) got together and pushed for what we wanted... Our hourly rate went up from $15 to $20 and we got a daily bonus system brought in (anything you earnt over a certain amount you got 65% of what you made for the company.)... Its kinda evolved to although you get paid more you get less hours so it works out to taking about the same amount home for less work.... The only problem that ACE express was not a part of the Union movement so they got clients by undercutting there employees to get cheap rates... Mail Call sorta stuff (but no where near as bad.)...
I'm a union member and they've already paid for there memberships this year by noticing i was getting paid 37c under the award... i got $200 or so back pay and a slight payrise... I'd rather b earning over my award and getting paid bonus (per delivery) but apparently Toll Fist cant be bothered competing with dodgy pricks like Mail Call anymore...
They've cornered the market and theyre still ripping there employees off.
Employers should be making money with us... Not off of us...
Maybe unions aren't the answer... I can't think of anything better... Can you?

www.TOBMA.com
Wayne Scott was the Canadian messenger that set up the food for fuel program... You might be able to contact him from www.TOBMA.com (its in capitals on my t-shirt). I`m kinda running out of time at the moment but i`ll try and track him down and ask him if he can add some info to this forum for us...

we get 17 dollars a day in
we get 17 dollars a day in montreal i believe, also in case ya guys dont have it down there we get a tax write off for our rent. it goes under storage for my/your bike/s. I do believe the guy who got that for canada was an independent(i think?!)
And just to warn u guys alot of unions in montreal are trying to get us to go on scooters. they pulled a fast one on a couple companies here in montreal with that.
I have a saying id like to share with u guys when it comes to unions "u need fire to fight fire but ur sure to get burned"
Unions have done a lot of good things....
But i also think they are useless without unity (and direction) among the members.... The problem (in Adelaide) was that when things improved for one company the other company capitalised by undercutting there employees to get cheap rates... Maybe if we all worked out what we wanted (australia wide) and then joined and pushed for it that would be a good thing.... Im still not sure tho...
I kinda like having mates from around the world come and work in our cities.... And that would maybe stop if there wasn`t a high employee turnover.... Also i still can`t figure out if giving peckers a job and helping getting the toothless massive off the streets is a good thing or not.... (I kinda wish companies would train and asess them for job suitability properly tho).... I hate cringing every time i see one of them in traffic...
Maybe if we all get together (nationally) we should pop the big question....
