what the hell

what have you been smokin doddy?
sounds like its the first time youve been out of adelaide.
what the hell do you mean by the smartest/fastest "community" rider?
we're not in kansas anymore toto.

TOKYO!!! Shino Takes it out....

Man was it hectic over the last few days.... It was a very open course with only one or two one way sections... You could cut through grass and stuff and you had to lock your bike at every checkpoint.... And Yep there was a lot of pedestrians! It was a real messenger race thats for sure.... There was a despatch tent and everytime you finsihed your manifest you had to go get another one..... There was four manifests to qualify and more for the final heat! Crikey did a storm roll in or what? The last hour of racing was hardcore but yep tokyo took it out.... Fixies got 1,2,3 and 4..... Tokyo 09....

more details later!

either that or just check the official site

How many "NOT FIXED" bikes

How many "NOT FIXED" bikes was there by the way?

And I am quite impressed (well not really) that a fixie won the race.. where there no hills?

Punch it chewy

It was a pretty mixed bunch yogi....

I'd say fixies and freewheels were very close to 50/50 and everyone seemed to respect each others preffered choice of bike setup. But yep the course was really flat and there was no real tight technical corners.... The fact that you had to lock your bike at every checkpoint and also take into account the heavy and bulky items that had to be carried this seriously favoured the fixed and single speed setups.... Having a bike that you could just point and shoot without worrying about the right gear selection and crap like that was definitely handy.

Jesus Christ! Where for out thou? THEY ALL MISS YOU IN T.O.!

OK OK... its 2:38 am and i am f**cked....... Spent all night packing setting up for registration and all of that helping out (maybe if i give them what they need they'll give me what i need)..... Decided not to work with currency until i know if i can rely on my insurance or not (no big deal i got other priorities now). (if they try anything i may consider making a global example of how shonky they are).... I kept reading that fricken lonely planet book and it kept telling me to go back in time so i tried not to use a map and i tried to get lost (hopefully then i will find myself).... Experimentally tried to start with nothing so I road around Montreal at 4am on whatever day it was with no sleep or without a map having never been there before... Its really hard to figure out where to go if you don't know what direction to take.... Kinda figured out how to use the sun for directions..... Learnt that homeless people in Montreal teach there dogs how to gaurd them at night.... (I tried not to wake them up as i road around on a brand new bike i was unfamiliar with).... It was kinda scary.... seemed as if drivers at 4am wouldnt stop at certain lights because they may get carjacked or something... Got a little scared when i made a small mistake because i was confused and a car decided to aim for me so i went back francoirs house..... looked at a map figured out a slight direction to take and then guessed the rest.... I almost started crying as i got a little tired.... and was getting worried because it felt like i had tried everywhere.... Got eye contact with someone smiled and politely asked "sorry i am from Australia do you know how to find the train station to Toronto?" they pointed up and yep i was right in front of it (should have trusted my judgement)..... I learnt a lot..... But its definitely easier to find things when you go a little slower thats for sure.... My bikes been stolen but thats ok (a good messenger can turn water to wine)....

TOTAL TIME 4 HOURS TO FIND A TRAIN STATION IN A FOREIGN CITY WHILE TRYING NOT TO USE A MAP..... OR TALK TO PEOPLE.... OR USE ANYTHING ACCEPT YOURSELF..... and of course your bike..... (I NEED MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WAS THE LESSON I LEARNT)... I still may need a little more time to garuntee appriciation in the future

Jumbo decided to ride from Montreal to Toronto in two days...... The group ride of 40 is going there own ways and trying to read a step by step map backwards (from Toronto to Montreal or Montreal to Toronto or something)..... Kai (our kai) and a few New Yorkers did 150 miles then 155ish and then 90ish then tried to find there way around a foreign city before partying and then joining in with the group ride....

I think there is about 500 people registered so far and they are just floating around the city talking, learning, respecting and discovering..... OF COURSE THE NEW YORKERS ARE GETTING INTO A LITTLE TROUBLE..... Its porno steves (sweditzerland) birthday tomorrow so they have to figure out how to fit at least 400 people in 1 venue.... We have a lot of ex world champions around but they all seem to be hard at work or just off learning instead of trying to win.....

Still considering trying to be the best "community rider" in the world cos that would be a good achievement.... my plan so far is to ride around show some respect... ask a few questions and figure out the 5 smartest/fastest "community" riders in Toronto then study them.... If you know me you might be able to figure it out..... USE YOUR BRAIN IF YOUR INTERESTED BECAUSE IT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY..... Hodarias made it by the way and he is doing extremely well.... (apparently a cargo bike is the only way to deliver blood and plasma during times like 911.).... We all stick together have some fun and we help each other.... THE WORLD NEEDS MESSENGERS.

BLOODY WHATEVER WHO GIVES A DAMN!?....... just don't get run over, look out for pedestrians and the rest is all good manners.... WHAT A BLAST!....

No sign of Raphael yet...... The suns coming up i cant see properly i must get some sleep so that i can get up tomorrow and help people....

Asking around for the Perth guys.... Last i heard they missed the train that they said they would be on and are trying to find me....... We'll work it out.... Patience.

In case you havent realised curse words don't matter to us.... Not running us over is way more important... Take it easy.

Crazy Day Today

We had a few riders rolling in today... Geezer Ian, Sarah (2006 world champ), Last years world champ, Jumbo (1st but dq'd last year).... Looks like all of lasts night work payed off.... Everyone seems to be getting along pretty well. I tried riding around and only using monuments and buildings as a point of reference.... It worked pretty well..... Toronto's a pretty easy city to figure out i believe.... These guys are amazing... Every time they get a problem they just turned it around into a solution.... Perth guys are still missing in action but they should be at porno steves birthday tonight.... No idea who will win.... I'm pretty sure its a completely different format in the main race..... Cant figure it out.... I might just go to some "Fishing" when i'm on the Island instead..... Looks like maybe 3-400 people will need to be catered for at the registering tent tomorrow (a tricky scenario indeed)...

I'm paying for your free beer... that all registered get.. it looks like to me, to be THE EVENT if you stay sober. It wont be as good as CMWC XIV of course.
