As im heading off to Melburn, i guess id better retire as president of SYDBMA. Looking back after 5 years of throwing my shoulder to the wheel im well pleased with the progress of the sydbma. we (as in the collective 'we') sold a lot of schwag, built a website (or 3), printed some 'zines (2 different editions: the loaded crank, cranked) and have put on some fantastic alleycats. The highlight will always be the opportunity to host the CMWC's.
When i bid for the worlds in 04, the naysayers at the open forum shook their heads and kept telling me what a trial it was going to be. friendships would be ruined, money would be lost, people would stress out and the whole thing would be a disaster. i kept smiling and told them 'no worries mate'.
For me, CMWCXIV will always rate as the best worlds ever, for its scale, its attitude, its style and success. I dont think i will ever have the opportunity to have so much pride in my city and my community.
LONG LIVE THE SYDBMA!
things still to do
get the roller races up and happening.
sell more stuff.
get more rookies involved.
on the workplace front, i always hoped id have the energy to get some minimum standard service times set, say 30min (or 45min ala the post) for the minimum delivery time for an express delivery that a company can quote. pitch it from an OH&S standpoint. id also like to see a minimum client charge brought back in. in the old days, you couldn't charge less than 10 times the standard postal rate for a courier delivery.
anyways, im on holidays for a bit. after a good rest i might still give it a shot. i reckon i could have some fun at the Industrial Relations Commission.
winning is for losers
one last thing..
who would ever have thought id agree with hyperhorse? but i do, if i can quote the man correctly...
"Thanks for the help Shifty, you were the only one who really cared."
ride safe and ill see you all soon,
scooter
winning is for losers
